Ever been on a horse?

My dad worked on a farm where one of the owners had girls with horses. They were about my age and we all got on well. (with the girls not the horses)

They were always at me to get on and have a go but my answer was always something along the lines of...

Fuck.That! 🐴

Anyway, one day they managed to get me on. No saddle or reins but they would walk by my side and make sure everything didn't go to shit.

But let me tell you how it went to shit!

And how funny they all thought it was.

I didn't think it was very funny at all. In fact, it's fair to say i thought my life was about to end.

So we're strolling along. Me on top of this horse and i'm looking down at the road below me, which seemed like 40ft or so away. 

Everything was going well. 

But the next thing i know the horse has upped it's pace a bit. I'm getting bumped about like an in demand porn star and i've not a fucking clue what to do about it!

Do i jump?

No. i'll probably die!

There's instructions getting shouted at me from a distance, in between the bouts of hysterical laughter.

I remembered something about 'digging your heels in' so i tried but it turns out that's code for go faster.

I figured i'd hold on for dear life and hope for the best. 

With the horses being so well trained and behaved, it basically ran round the field and back to where we'd started.

I got off and i've never been on one of those things again. I'll stick to my bike. It's got brakes!

I tell this story because it's like most people's attempt at getting fit and healthy. 

They go it alone and have no idea what they're doing. They start on all sorts of ridiculous diets & programs which is only going to end one way.

Sure, they might get some results, but most will be back to old habits pretty quickly.

But like riding horses is to those girls, health & fitness is to me...
